Panoramas

A panorama is usually a single picture — an image file — which has an usual shape, typically many times wider than it is high. Most people think of these as "those very long post cards" that you can buy of exceptionally scenic places in the world where you have to turn your head 180 ° (or sometimes a full 360 °) just to be able to take in the whole vista. It is possible to make panoramas using a normal digital camera by taking a sequence of "overlapping snapshots" and then using software after-the-fact to "stitch together" the photographs into a single panorama. If you don't know how to do this, that is a service I can provide.

On the web we can take this panorama presentation paradigm one step further by actually showing the "picture in motion", as you see in the samples below.  This lets you take in the view without having to be there, though it admittedly works better when the parorama is a full 360 ° sequence. Since the Java applet that does this presentation is somewhat of a resource hog, you might find that you get some sort of "not enough memory" message rather than seeing the panorama in rotation. For that reason, the following Table presents the smallest panoramas first; you might have more 'trobule' with the larger ones which are further down in the list below.
