My USA hometown, Boston, Ma.
I've never actually lived right in Boston, but nevertheless this picture is my
image of this area (albeit not a very clear photo). I did have
exactly this view of Boston
from the offices at
Sapient Corp
where I worked when we first moved back from Alabama to Massachusetts
at the end of 1997; that's why I can tell you that the Charles River
does, in fact, freeze over - sometimes all the way across - though
you couldn't get me to try and walk on that ice, so close to the
Atlantic Ocean during the colder parts of those New England winters.
It was my first job out of graduate school that initially brought me to New England. Leaving the University of Waterloo in January 1977, I moved to the Boston area where I spent the next 6 years of my life living first in Massachusetts and later in Nashua, New Hampshire.
All of this time I worked for DIGITAL; I was on the team that first came out with VAX/VMS in 1977 (I think). My part of what is now called OpenVMS was building the multi-language symbolic DEBUG utility. Later we moved to France for the early 80s, then back to the Boston area, then to Colorado and Alabama, and are now back "home" again since September of 1997. This time we made our homestead in Groton, Ma. We love it here! Click on the map link and zoom in or out to get the perspective that shows you where we're at!
More details are TBD...
